Okan Buruk Admits It: Galatasaray Already Has a Hidden Captain

Osimhen Leadership Role at Galatasaray Raises Bigger Questions Than the Captain’s Armband

Giving Victor Osimhen the captain’s armband isn’t really a promotion. It feels more like a formality.

Inside Galatasaray, the belief is already clear — he leads without needing the title.

Head coach Okan Buruk has hinted at that reality, describing Osimhen as a “very strong leader” and someone the dressing room already follows. If the armband comes, it will simply confirm what is already obvious on the pitch.

The timing also matters. Mauro Icardi is expected to leave at the end of the season, opening up a leadership gap at the club. Osimhen, 27, is now being considered as a serious option to take over.

His numbers explain why. He has scored 20 goals in all competitions this season and played a key role in Galatasaray’s recent domestic success.

But this is not happening in a rebuilding phase. Galatasaray are on course for a fourth straight league title, with Osimhen central to that push.

The final decision will involve the coach, president, and club board. But inside the team, the message is already simple — his influence is not in question.

The only question left is what changes when that influence becomes official.
